Loneliness and public transport, the connection we're not talking about enough!

When the infrastructure meant to support city life makes it harder to connect, it’s not just an inconvenience. It’s a mental health issue.
As a therapist working with young professionals in and around London, I see every day how loneliness is affecting this generation.
This is a COMPLEX issue with MANY causes, but one that I want to voice is expensive and unreliable public transport.
Today and over the last month every social dinner I planned was derailed by train cancellations or delays. What should’ve been 30-40 minute journeys became 1.5 hour disasters, sometimes resulting in a costly uber.
As a therapist, I encourage my clients to build social connections, but it’s a real struggle to do this when even I have been avoiding going out due to the fear of it being a massive time and money expense to get home.
Isolation isn’t just emotional, it’s structural too.
